Awareness Week for Silent Killer
There may be no screeching tyres, no flames or flashing cameras, yet stroke quietly claims the lives of 2,000 New Zealanders every year.
Stroke Awareness Week is a crucial time for New Zealanders to learn stroke symptoms and tangible ways to reduce personal stroke risk, according to Stroke NZ CEO, Mark Vivian.
“Stroke is a silent killer, mostly hidden from public view, yet it is New Zealand’s second single biggest killer,” said Mr Vivian. “Understanding Stroke symptoms and risks will probably be the difference between quality of life and death for 8,000 stroke victims in the coming year.”
Throughout Awareness Week (11-17 September), the Stroke Foundation’s four regional offices, 40 field officers and numerous stroke clubs and supporters throughout New Zealand, will actively highlight Stroke symptoms and risk factors.
