Helen's story
My Mother was 53 years’ old when she had first stroke then died from a second stroke at 55. I lived at home and looked after Mum so Dad could continue farming. This was back in 70's when there were no brochures or websites or 0800 helplines to get info from.
Today, there's so much more accessible info which helps. Strokes affect the wider family and friends circle - not just the survivor.
I'm lucky to work for Stroke Aotearoa New Zealand where, hopefully, I can make a difference and help support stroke survivors and their families.
