Rex's story

Stroke has been part of Rex Becroft's life from a very young age.

When he was only 3 years old, he had a stroke as the result of a car accident. He remained in a coma for close to two months, and then had a long journey of rehabilitation ahead of him.

But despite this early experience, Rex's stroke hasn't stopped him from living a great life full of love and adventure – largely thanks to the steadfast support of people in his life. Rex wants everyone affected by stroke to have that same support, which is why he's choosing to leave a gift to Stroke Aotearoa in his will.

"I think Stroke Aotearoa is really worth supporting because they do so much for people."

Rex's life has not only been shaped by his own stroke, but also by other people's experience with stroke. Many of his friends and family have been affected by stroke, including his own mother. He knows many wonderful people who have not been able to return to their normal lives after a stroke, and he wants to leave a legacy that gives everyone the chance to have a strong recovery.

Rex hopes that his gift will be able to provide support to people who have experienced stroke, and also fund future research about stroke.

"There are always developments being made and I just thought, if I can help fund that, it would be good."
